George D. Kirkland Memorial Fund Scholarship

The George D. Kirkland Memorial Fund memorializes the life and contributions of George D. Kirkland, CAE.  Kirkland, who lost his life to cancer, was President & CEO of LA INC., The CVB since 1990. His service to DMAI and the entire travel and hospitality community is regarded as legendary.

DMAI (then, IACVB) and the DMAI Foundation created the fund at the 2003 Annual Convention and provided initial funding of US$10,000 each.

"George gave generously of himself in encouraging and mentoring young people to enter his chosen profession.
...[A]s an industry, we can continue his legacy."
- Charles W. Ahlers, Co-Chair of the George D. Kirkland Fund Committee

Today, the endowment assists worthy individuals pursuing careers in the fields of travel and hospitality.  The DMAI Foundation, together with the Los Angeles Travel & Tourism Education Foundation, continue Kirkland's legacy in assisting L.A. area students pursuing careers in the fields of travel and hospitality.
